The observatory's standards of including the violations against journalists

According to the interest of the observatory about highlighting the cases of the journalists and the violations they face while doing their job, and according to the commitment of transparency and neutrality, the journalists against torture observatory clarifies the standards of including and monitoring the violations against journalists, and the field we press. It's worthy indicating that these standards is continuously revised, and we make sure that it's implemented accurately in the cases we monitor.

The fields of media we concern : newspapers (including the electronic press), TV and radio.

The job titles we concern : all the people working in media and press institutions, wither a journalist, broadcaster, editor, preparator, executive, photographer or any one participating in media and press content.

press content : news or pressing material that is not related to private or personal incidents.

The journalist : who prepare or present press content, wither in a stable work in a media or press institution or as a freelancer, but with a condition of these :

1- works regularly or a trainee in a press or media institution with papers proving that.
2- has an archive that prove his work as a trainee or a freelancer.
3- enrolling in the journalists' syndicate is not a condition.

The standards of monitoring the violations against the journalists:

1- while doing his job ( like the violations while the press coverage of incidents)
2- because of his job ( like violations based on his press content or the articles)
3- because of his job title ( assaulting or violating journalists for his job title as a journalist even if it wasn't while doing his job)

passenger steamers about the violations we exclude:

first : concerning press coverage of events and incidents :

1- if he didn't prove that he was committed to the task of press coverage by his workplace.
2- if the journalist attended as a citizen by his side, not as a journalist for his work.

 Second : concerning the cases and the judicial sentences:

1- if he didn't prove his job and his workplace, or if he hadn't archive.
2- if the cases was about his attitude and deeds as a citizen.
